How To Avoid Embarrassment With One Magic Question
How To Avoid Embarrassment With One Magic Question During my short stint in the world of sales, I was given a valuable piece of advice regarding dealing with prospects questions. An experienced peer shared what she claimed was her ace in the hole: before answering a prospects question, she would first acknowledge it. Then she would inquire, Why do you ask? She claimed this gave her a better idea of the prospects perspective, and their response would allow her to respond to their original question within its intended context. A side benefit, she added, was that it gave her an extra moment to prep her reply. Great advice. Of course, I promptly ignored it. Why Would You Ignore Great Advice? Ill attribute my actions to being youthful and brash. I chose instead to do things my own way: answering questions in a way that made me comfortable, basically spewing all available product data in excessive thorough detail. Because thats what people want when theyre shopping, right? They collect data and carefully analyze it in order to make a buying decision. Or at least thats what I do. Years later and since becoming an huge fan of productive communication its obvious that what I was doing was taking my preferred method of making a purchase (researching, analyzing, collecting data) and presuming that was what my prospects wanted, too. And because many folks approach purchases (among other things) differently than I do, I was losing them entirely. And losing sales. If only Id used the Why do you ask? approach, I would have been able to gain their perspective, and been enlightened earlier. A lot earlier. I might have even reached my sales goals. But I was too busy blaming my low sales on a number of product and marketing shortcomings in the company. As a result, I was oblivious to the fact that my unwillingness to gain the prospects perspective was the real reason for my low sales figures. As I mentioned earlier, it was a short stint. Just One Little Question I was recently reminded of the power of that one magic question when a friend shared a story recently. Her 10 year-old daughter asked, Mom, whats a virgin? My friend, who had recently been wondering when shed begin getting such inquiries, sighed deeply and invited her daughter to have a seat. She then went through the whole explanation: the human reproduction system, puberty and the physical changes that accompany it, the definition of a virgin, her opinion that abstinence is the clearly best approach for teenage girls, although there are other ways to prevent pregnancy, and on and on. When Jeannette finally stopped talking, her daughter was staring at her wide-eyed. Uh, okay, Mom. It was then Jeannette thought to inquire, Why do you ask, honey? Her daughter replied: Because the computer pop-up thingy is asking if we want the current version of the software. Save yourself the embarrassment. Use this magic question. Have you ever completely misunderstood an inquiry and answered it entirely out of context? What embarrassment followed?

A Few Important Guidelines Regarding CV Writing Format
A Few Important Guidelines Regarding CV Writing FormatThe CV/resume writing format should be planned and arranged according to the skills and potential of the applicant. This way, the job seeker can effectively make a good impression and prove his or her capabilities. There are certain key points that are to be kept in mind while drafting the CV or resume. These are as follows:The first thing to be done is to decide on the location of the interview: Although this should not be an issue, some employers may use this as a constraint. Before you start, make sure that the person in charge has no information about your placement. It would not be ideal if they know about your new employer.Information and records should be taken care of: Any documentation relating to your job history and position should be maintained. Ensure that you take the assistance of a professional to prepare your CV. A professional CV writer would be able to keep records such as disciplinary action and post-discipline notices.Include details related to your activities: Any written work related experience, not just at the present job, should be included in the CV. Also, the references, especially from past employers should be attached. Again, these should be thoroughly researched and properly presented. Also check for any discrepancies on the CV: Some mistakes can really mar the confidence of the applicant. Most of the time, if they notice a mistake in the CV, it will be too late.Review the documents: Lastly, make sure that you always have a proper review of the documents. To ensure the correctness of the resume, it is important to first thoroughly review it. Make sure that the content of the CV/resume is grammatically correct and free from errors.Once you follow the above-mentioned guidelines, you will surely get a better grasp of the best CV/resume writing format. If you follow the above tips carefully, you can easily come up with a very appealing CV.

Book review Faster - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Book review Faster - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Time is the one totally democratic resource. No matter who you are, a day still only has 24 hours. But these days, everything seems to go faster. We try to cram more and more into every day, and weve come to hate and fear periods of inaction, especially those we dont choose for ourselves. James Gleick tells the story of time, and how our perception of it has changed. The book covers many topics, and is full of great stories and many new (for me at least) insights. We are obsessed with saving time. We constantly try to shave hours or minutes of everything we do, to save more time. But why? What are we saving all that time for? (The answer is of course TV, or what James Gleick calls the 900-pound gorilla of spare time.) Ive found, that quite often, doing something faster, takes the fun out of it. Maybe its worth it to spend a little more time, and enjoy yourself a lot more. The book is very well written, logically structures and an easy, undemanding read. I would have liked to see a sort of conclusion to all of the observations in the book, but none is offered. Maybe no single conclusion is possible. Still the book is excellent reading if you want to think about our changing perception of time. Pseudorandom associations: In Generation X, Douglas Coupland describes a disease which only strikes busy people. It is transmitted by the Door close buttons in elevators, which the really impatient people are always punding to get the elevator going a few seconds faster. In one of his books Tor N?rretranders relates a really scary statistic, according to which the average dane spends more time watching TV than at work, seen over an entire life time. Thanks for visiting my blog. If you're new here, you should check out this list of my 10 most popular articles. How Can Your Business Help to Save the Planet
How Can Your Business Help to Save the Planet As humans we have had a devastating impact on the earth, but in recent years there has been a global movement focused on protecting our planet. Now that weâre aware of the damage that our actions have caused, we can take steps to put it right. As a business owner, one thing you should bear in mind is how eco friendly your company is, and if youâre doing all that you can to prevent damage to the environment. Here are a few ideas. Stop Buying Disposable Plastics It has come to light in recent years just how damaging disposable plastics are. Since these items donât degrade for hundreds of years, pretty much every piece of plastic ever created still exists- unless itâs incinerated which causes toxic gases. Huge âislandsâ of waste plastic have been discovered, itâs killing animals and has even entered our own food chain- the effects of which are likely to be devastating. For this reason, cutting back on single use plastics as a business is so important. Using things like refillable pens and printer cartridges will not only save you money but will help you to do your bit as a business by reducing plastic waste. Companies like coffee shops and food places are already putting in motion things like getting rid of plastic straws and coffee stirrers, and using recyclable paper cups instead of plastic. Work out what you can do to follow suite. Recycle When you recycle materials, it allows them to be re-used instead of going to landfill or incinerators which are both bad for the environment. So recycling carefully is just as important in your business as it is in your home, and chances are you already recycle carefully at home. Ensure you have correct recycling bins and that employees are briefed on how to use them properly. Companies like PRS-Med have fully embraced this by utilizing marginal land and recycled materials, working with their clients to use less asphalt, less aggregate and utilize locally available soil for structural infill. Go Paper Free We live in a digital age, we can access any information we like right from our smartphone, tablet, computer or laptop. So there really is no need for the amount of paper that we still use. Cutting down trees leads to deforestation, not to mention getting rid of waste paper is also bad for the environment. Instead of sending out things such as invoices, receipts and statements on paper to customers, opt to have âpaper freeâ as your standard option- send to their email address instead. Customers can always request to have paper copies if they need to, although most people donât as to the majority of us, things like paper receipts are nothing but junk. Lots of companies across the globe are aiming to go paper free in the near future and are taking steps to achieve this, see if you can do the same. Have you taken steps to achieve a more eco friendly business, or is this something you will be looking into in the near future?
